Episode 088 - Japanese Sweets vs. American Sweets

Miyu:    This is KSU Student Podcast. My name is Miyu and this is Moeko. Hello, Moeko.

Moeko:  Hi, Miyu. Oh, what is this?

Miyu:    This is an American dessert. This cake is very delicious! Do you want to taste it?

Moeko:  No, I don’t…it’s so colorful that it looks poisonous.

Miyu:    In America, It is not surprising when desserts are decorated with colorful chocolates, candies, and gummies.

Moeko:  On the contrary, Japanese desserts have too natural of a color. Japanese desserts don’t contain any extra ingredients.

Miyu:    Yes. There is a just reason that American desserts are colorful. America has many events around the year.

Moeko:  I know. For example, Halloween, Easter, and many more.

Miyu:    American people like to hold parties on such events. Colorful desserts make them happy, don’t they?

Moeko:  That’s right. Also, in Japan, we can enjoy a variety of desserts throughout the seasons. Japanese people consider “Shun” important.

Miyu:    What do you mean by “Shun”?

Moeko:  “Shun” means that food tastes best in the matching season.

Miyu:    I see. That’s a good tradition!

Moeko:  I think that’s all for today.  Tell me more next time.

Miyu:    Of course.  Thanks for listening to KSU Student Podcast.

Moeko:  We hope you have learned something new.
