Episode 061 - Music Talk: J-Pop and Western Music


J-pop and Western music


A: Hello. This is Mitsuki.

B: And, this is Misuzu. This is KSU Student Podcast. Today we're going to talk about J-pop and Western music.

A: What did you yesterday?

B: I went to karaoke with my friends.

A: University friends?

B: Yes, I went there with University friends. They are my best friends!

A: Wow! What song did you sing?

B: I sang One Direction. They are very popular singers in world! You know?

A: No, I don't know Western music well. So please tell me your recommended songs.

B: OK! I really like Western music. I often listen. My favorite song is "Story of My Life" by One Direction. Let's listen to it!

A: Oh! That is a good song! I have heard it.

B: This song was used in TV commercial by Docomo.

A: I see!

B: Do you like Western music?

A: Umm... I don't know what they're saying and I can't understand the meaning.

B: I want you to listen to Western music.

A: Um...Western music is difficult for me. I like J-pop!

B: What do you like?

A: Well...I like Disney songs, but they're in Japanese.

B: Oh! So you should try to listen to Disney songs in English. For example, “Let it Go,” “Under the sea,” and so on.

A: Oh! That's a good example! I can study English and improve my listening skill!

B: Yes! You should try to Western music more.

A: I see. I'll try to it. But you should listen to J-pop too!

B: Sure! I listen to Enka. It's great Japanese music and culture.

A: Let's go to karaoke together soon.

B: Yes! I'm looking forward to going there!

A:I'm from Hyogo. Where are you from?
B:I'm from Sapporo in Hokkaido.
A:Oh! I often think that the area around Hokkaido is very cold. I also think that there's much snow.
B:Yes, in winter, people are busy shoveling the snow disrupting the road. Occasionally, the cars won't advance on the road.
A:Wow! I envy you! It scarcely snows in Hyogo. There isn't a good point about the climate in Hyogo. But there is a famous world heritage site. For example, Himeji castle.
B:It is very exciting. Will you explain it in detail?
A:Ok. Himeji castle was a site in a Japanese historical drama called “Abarembo shogun.” Foreign people often converge there.
B:I want to go to Himeji, too. By the way, did you know many foods in Hokkaido?
A:I know some foods from there. I generally think about “Kaisendon.” I have eaten it before!
B:That's right! But you should eat “Jingiskan.”
A:Oh. What is “Jingiskan?”
B:It is a sheep meat meal.
A:Sheep? Is it delicious?
B:Of course. If you go to Hokkaido, you can eat it.
A:I want to go to Hokkaido now!
B:You should go there in spring vacation.
A:Yes. Thank you for your introduction.

AB: Hello, everyone!
A: I'm MOVIE NERD.
B: I'm MOVIE FREAK.
A: How have you been recently?
B: Oh, yeah! I bought new DVDs. So I can recording movies on TV. Last weekend I couldn't recording "Harry Potter" that is my regret.
A: Ohh, that's too bad. A time like this we thought "I want to rewind time." Don't you think so? Today we're going to talk about "Back to the future" that time machine appear in.
B: This is famous movie, right?
A: Yes. This is the most famous movie in the world. By the way the date appear in the movie "A.D. 2015, October 21st" is still fresh in our minds. Do you know the "Back to the future" story?
B: Oh, I don't know...
A: I see. Marty and Doc appear in the movie. In 1985, they had to time travel to the past in 1955.
B: Why have they gone in the past?
A: Because when they escaped from an enemy, Doc pushed the switch by mistake.
B: OH, that’s serious problem. How did they come back?
A: They come back with the power of lightning, and borrow past Doc's power. But they had a big problem before come back.
B: Big problem?
A: Yes. Marty's mother has been in love Marty.
B: Wow! It's really a big problem! If Marty's mother doesn't marry father. Marty will not be born.
A: That's right. But they were able to solve a problem.
B: It was good.
A: By the way, if you go to the future or past, you chose the future? or past?

Episode 058 - Pet Talk: Chihuahuas and other rare pets

-Hi Maika. Not much. Thanks for asking.
*Have you ever kept a pet?
-Yes!
*What's kind of pet?
-I have a dog, he is a Chihuahua.
*Really? I have Chihuahua too!
-Ok, have you kept only dog?
*In addition to my Chihuahua, I have two cats.
-Oh, I like cats too. My friends have kept a small pig and a Mexican Salamander.
*Wow, I want to keep a rare pet!!
-Yesterday, I watched TV show about that.
*How was it??
-Do you know Izumi Mori?
*I know! She is famous Japanese TV star.
-She loves animal so she has a lot of animals.
For example, she has elephant tortoise.
*They said that it eats about five cabbages in a day and it can live to great age.
-Wow, it costs so much and taking care of it is hard...
*Yes
-I want to keep animals which are inexpensive to keep and easy to take care of.
*In that case, I recommend a hedgehog.
-What is that?
*It's Harinezumi in Japanese. My cousin has kept it, it's very cute and taking care of it is simple.
-Sounds great! Anything is good, but I like dog!
*After all, normal is the best.

M: I think so too, but I think Cristiano Ronaldo has same ability. Where is the different point with Messi?

Y: You don’t know Messi’s ability .I teach it to you. First, Messi made his stage at the Top Team debut at 17years old. After it, win the title in Liga Española seven times, win the title in Champions League four times. Additionally, he have been given a FIFA Balon doll Award four times. Moreover, he is 28years old now. He is very young. He is more growth. This is a surprised record! Do you think so too!?

M: Oh, great! I could understand about it. Recently, he was gave the Most Valuable Player Award. I was happy when knew it.

Y: Really!?I didn’t know.! Didn’t I tell you so?

M: Yes. By the way, Did you watch the game Real Madrid vs Barcelona? I couldn’t watch it.

Y: Yes, I did. Barcelona win the game! Messi wasn’t starting member, because he was recent recovery in an injury, but he took parte in the latter half.

M: Nice! I’m happy, too! Barcelona is good condition. I hope they are keeping condition, also win the title in this year. They can do it!

Y: I hope it. They will be able to win the three major titles a triple crown.

M: Yeah! Let’s cheer for Barcelona, together!!

Y: Of course. Incidentally, Neymar will be given a FIFA Balon doll Award. Because Messi was long leave, also Neymar is Top scorer now.

M: It is a possible thing.

Episode 056 - Prefecture Battle: Kyoto vs. Niigata


A: Hello, this is Shun.
B: Hello, I'm Yu. This is KSU student Podcast. How are you?

A: I feel very cold
B: Why?
A: Recently, it's getting cold and autumn is ending.
B: Yeah. By the way, speaking of autumn, I’ll recommend to you a nice spot.
A: Oh, please tell me! Where?
B: Kiyomizudera is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall, and gets its name from the fall's pure waters. The temple was added the list of UNESCO world heritage site.
A: I see. So why Kiyomizu in the fall?
B: Today I recommend that you should go to Kiyomizu in autumn because you can see every beautiful autumn leaves. Kiyomizudera is also best known for its wooden site that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the high side bellow. The stage affords visitors  a nice view of the numerous maple trees below that erupt in a sea of color in autumn, as well as of the city of Kyoto in the distance.
A: It's great! I'll try to go there someday.
B:  And where's your hometown?
A: My hometown is Niigata. Do you know where Niigata is?
B: Sure.
A: Niigta is the city which faces the Sea of Japan. So, we can eat a lot of sea food there. Of course rice is famous too.
B:  Yes, I know that.
A: And in winter, we can see much snow. That often falls more than a meter a day.
B: Really! It’s so heavy.
A: Yes, so we can enjoy skiing every winter. I want to do it early. Would you like to go skiing with me?
B: Sorry, I haven't experienced it.
A: Oh... In Niigata, in my high school days, we went skiing with my class instead of school excursion.
B: It sounds good. I want to do someday!
A: And... Oops sorry, time’s up now. I wanted to talk more.
B: Me too. But I was able to talk about good place in each of our hometowns today.

Episode 055 - Interesting Place in Kyoto


Hi, my name is Kansuke and Takeru. This is KSU Podcast.

 

A: Hi, how are you doing?

 

B: I'm fine, and you?

 

A: Metoo. What did you do last weekend?

 

B: I went to Ryoanji.

 

A: What about Ryoanji?

 

B: Ryoanji is temple which have been built Muromachi era.

 

   This place famous point is Karesansui. Do you know Karesansui?

 

A: I don't know detail. But I know this is diffarent type garden.

 

B: Yes. This garden consist of fifteen stones and sands.

 

A: Really?

 

B: Yes. Furthermore, you can't see one stone whereever you see.

 

A: It is very strange. I'm interested in it.

 

B: Karesansui has two mysteries. Who and Why built?

 

A: Were they solved by anyone?

 

B: Nobody knows.

 

A: That's cool!

 

   Next is my turn. I recommend you Seimeijinja.

 

B: I know Abe no seimei. Does he relate this shrine?

 

A: Yes. This shrine worship him. He is very famous Onmyoji.

 

B: What is this shrine features?

 

A: This place is Japanese powerspot.

 

   There are two famous points.

 

   First, there are lantern which is carved pentagram.

 

   The pentagram calls Seimei Kikyou.

 

   Second, there is a stone obje form of peach.

   It happens lucky with it touches.

 

B: Thanks to your introduction. I want to go there.

 

   Recently, I have unlucky so I should touch the peach.

 

A: One more recommendation for you. Do you like Manga?

 

B: Yes. I love Manga! For example, One piece, Naruto and so on...

 

A: Such you to recommend, Manga museum.

 

   There are many kinds and quantities of Manga.

  

   This place has cafe and garden. You can read in garden on a sunny day.

 

B: That's sounds great! I'm in whole day. I want to live.

 

A: Would you like to come to Kyoto?

A: At first, we are going to talk about how to spend your X'mas day in Japan. Hey, Honami Do you know that Japanese people often go to KFC on X'mas?
B: Really? I didn't know that and I have never been there in Japan. But I tried to get take out once.
A: Sounds good.
B: By the way, X'mas is coming soon. Do you have a plan on X'mas?
A: Yes, I will spend the day with many my friends. It's '女子会'. We will decorate my friend's house and hold party.
B:  Sounds good. I’ll spend the day with my boyfriend. He will make a plan, so I am looking forward to spending the day with him.
A: Wow! Do you know how most people spend X'mas in Japan?
B: Umm. I think that most people spend X'mas with their family.
A: No, I searched how most people spend X'mas in Japan. So, most people spend the day with their boyfriend or girlfriend. Other people spend the day with their family or friends.
B: That’s interesting. Japanese people spend X'mas with their boyfriend or girlfriend.
A: Yes, X'mas is a day for boyfriends or girlfriends in Japan. Do you know what present you should give to a boyfriend or girlfriend?
B: I think it is accessories for girlfriend as a present.
A: That's right! Most people give their girlfriends accessories. I want it for X'mas as a present.
B: I think so too. What do they give boyfriends a present?
A: Umm...I searched that. It is a watch. It is always worn. So, it is often selected as a X'mas present.
B: It is interesting. What do they eat on X'mas?
A: Japanese people eat X'mas cakes and chickens.
B: That's good.
A: Each person has a different plan and present for X'mas day.
B: Next, we are going to talk about how to spend your X'mas in foreign country.
A: For example, in America most people spend the day with their family and relatives including their boyfriend or girlfriend, so many people get together on X'mas day.
B: That's interesting. I think that it is different from Japan. What do they eat on X'mas?
A: They eat ham, beef, and turkey. And they eat not only X'mas cakes but also cookies.
B: Really? I am surprised. I know how people spend their X'mas day in Italy.
A: Oh! Really? I want to know that. Please tell me.
B: Yes, in Italy most people spend time their family and relatives.
A: I think it resembles America.
B: I think so too.
A: What do they eat for X'mas?
B: They eat fish dishes as the main dishes.
A: That's interesting. I thought that they would eat meat dishes as main dishes.
B: I thought so too. I think X'mas day is different from country to country.
A: Yes, it is good to know that.

Episode 053 - Prefecture Battle: Fukui vs. Hiroshima


Tomoshi: Hello. I’m Tomoshi and this is Hiroto. This is KSU Student Podcast. I went to Okinawa last week.

Hiroto: Oh, It sounds good. What was good there?

Tomoshi: There are many good places in Okinawa. For example, Shuri castle and the beautiful sea.

Hiroto: I went there on a high school trip, too. There are still many memories. The best memory is the food. Okinawan food was good, but the food from my hometown is more delicious. What is the memory of your school trip?

Tomoshi: I went to Hawaii.

Hiroto: Where did you go in Hawaii?

Tomoshi: I went to Diamond Head, Alamoana shopping center, and Moanalua high school. And I went cruising. The view from Diamond Head was so beautiful. I took a lot of pictures there. Alamoana shopping center is very big and I bought some goods for my family and friends. Moanalua high school and my high school are sister schools. So we had a school visit to Moanalua high school and we did various things, for example, singing some songs, dancing together, making friends, and so on.

Hiroto: Wow, it’s wonderful. The foreign school trip is surprising. I haven’t been to a foreign country so far. I want to go to a foreign country. I was always in my hometown, Fukui, because Fukui is the best place. Fukui has a lot of nature, clean water, a gentle person. I recommend Fukui to everybody. If you come to Fukui, stay at my house. Is there a place that you want to go now?

Tomoshi: I’ll go to Fukui next week. So I want to know Fukui’s good place.

Hiroto: My hometown’s good place is the Dinosaur museum.

Tomoshi: Oh, I have never heard of it before. I didn’t think Fukui had any good places.

Hiroto: Be quiet. It is one of the most famous places in Japan.

Tomoshi: Uh, please explain it.

Hiroto: Fukui has a lot of dinosaur fossils, footprints, and so on.

Tomoshi: Wow, it’s great. I wasn’t interested at all.

Hiroto: Please tell me about your hometown.

Tomoshi: My hometown is Hiroshima. There are two heritage sites. They are “Genbaku dome” and “Itsukushimajinja”.

Hiroto: I have been there once. They had history.

Tomoshi: I’ll tell you about “Itsukushimajinja”. A fireworks display is held in summer. This is very beautiful.

Hiroto: Hiroshima is slightly far from Fukui. But I want to go to Hiroshima once again. Tell me the good place.

Tomoshi: If you go to Hiroshima this winter, I recommend Hiroshima Dreamination to you. This is an illumination show held on Peace Boulevard. It is very beautiful.

Hiroto: I understand it. I want to eat Hiroshima’s famous food.

Tomoshi: There is Okonomimura near Peace Boulevard. So you should go there after you see Hiroshima Dreamination.

Hiroto: Ok, Fukui’s katsudon is very delicious. You should eat it later.

Tomoshi: Ok, I see. I’ll eat katsudon when I go to Fukui.

Hiroto: I recommend Fukui’s fresh fish. I could eat it every day one year ago. I live in Kyoto now. Kyoto’s fish is delicious, too. I am a lucky person.

Tomoshi: Ok, I’ll eat fresh fish, too. Oysters are famous food in Hiroshima. So I want you to eat not only Okonomiyaki but also Oyster.

Hiroto: Ok, I’ll eat them.

Episode 052 - Great Places to Visit in Kyoto


A: Hello, everyone! My name is Shiho and this is Yuka.
B: This is KSU student Podcast. How are you today?
A: I'm fine! Thank you. By the way, do you know Kyoto's good spots?
B: Yes! Why?
A: My mother will come to my house this weekend and I want to take her to Kyoto's good spots.
B: I see..., then, how about Tainaimeguri at Kiyomizu temple?
A: What's that?
B: It's like a cave...and it's dark. You advance in the cave while holding onto the handrail. It feels like when you are in your mother's body. You can regain a pure heart.
A: Oh, it's interesting! I have been to Kiyomizu temple but I didn't know this.
B: Oh, I see. This is a good place but most of the tourists don't know about it.
A: I want to go there!
B: Umm..., next, how about Mikami shrine?
A: Mikami shrine? I don't know that place.
B: This is the one-and-only shrine for head related problems in Japan. A lot of people with hair trouble come here.
A: Oh, I see! But my mom is not troubled by her hair.
B: I'm sorry..., then, how about Nishiki ichiba?
A: What kind of place is that?
B: There are many food shops. You can walk and eat at the same time.
A: It sounds fun!
B: There is interesting food, too. For example, chocolate croquette.
A: Wow! I want to eat it! Thank you for your advice!

K:Iʼ’m fine,thanks.
M:Anyway,where did you go in the summer vacation? I went
to Tokyo Disneyland! It was wonderful.
K:Oh, really? Iʼ’ve been there many times,I like it very much!
And I researching Disney Land now.
M:So,can you tell me about it? I want to know more!
First,when was it opened?
K:Tokyo Disney Land was April 15th in 1983, and Disney
Land in America was July 17th in 1955. Walt Disney is a
founder that create Micky Mouse. The name of that character
was Mortima at first,but Waltʼ’s wife recommend “Mickey
Mouse”,so Mickey Mouse was named.
M:I didnʼ’t know that. Itʼ’s very interesting. Iʼ’ve heard that
Mickey Mouse is qualified as a pilot,captain of a ship,a driver
and a fireman captain in Disney park.
K:I didnʼ’t know that. Mickey is a talented mouse! Mickey and
his girlfriend Minnieʼ’s birthday is on the same day.
M:I know,and my sisterʼ’s birthday is April 15th in1985. Itʼ’s
the day that Tokyo Disney Land was opened!
K:That sounds good! Oh,Disney Land in America has its 60th
anniversary now. I want to go there very much.
M:I think so,too. If I lived near there, I would be there every
weekend!
K:How about going there when we graduate from this
college?
M:Thatʼ’s a good idea! We have to save more money!
K:Letʼ’s go there for our graduation trip. Iʼ’m looking forward
to going there very much.

R: I want to go to an aquarium next year because I haven’t been there for a long time.

H: Oh! Really? I went to “Kaiyukan” this year.

R: Where is it? I don’t know that place.

H: It’s close to “USJ”.

R: “USA”!? You said “United States of America” now!?

H: No! No! No! I said “Universal Studio Japan”.

R: Ok! Ok! That’s the first time that I’ve heard of it..

H: I recommend going with your boyfriend.

R: Oh my god…I don’t have a boyfriend.

H: Oh. Sorry. Let’s go together sometime soon.

R: Do you know a different aquarium somewhere else?

H: Umm… There is “Kyoto aquarium” near Kyoto station.

R: Are there unusual creatures there?

H: There are great salamanders.

R: What’s is it?

H: They are well known as the world’s largest amphibians.

R: Wow. I want to see them

H: You can buy its stuffed toy there.

R: Really? I want to buy it.

R: Do you know another recommendation aquarium?

H: Umm… Have you ever been to Okinawa?

R: No.

H: Oh! Really? It is a wonderful place.

R: Is there an aquarium in there?

H: Don’t you know?

R: Yes. What is it name?

H: “Churaumi aquarium”.

R: Wow. It is strange name.

H: Yes. There are seventy kinds of deep sea fish.

R: It looks interesting!

H: Deep sea fish are also great but I’d like to see a dolphin show.

R: I’d like to see it too! Dolphins are very cute!!

H: Me too. I think that the best dolphin show is “Kamogawa aquarium” in Chiba.

R: Oh, really? Let’s go together!

H: Sounds good!

R: Earless seals is also cute, so I like it.

H: Where is aquarium that has earless seal?

R: I know!! I have been to “Asahiyama animal park” in Hokkaido.

H: “Animal park”?! Is there it actually??

R: Yeah! There are many kinds of creatures, so it’s interesting.

H: Wonderful!! I want to go there sometime.

R: Me too. I want to go there again.

H: Oops, I must already go.

R: Where do you go?

H: I’ll go “Kyoto aquarium” with my boyfriend.

Episode 049 - Hello Kitty is an Old Lady


This is Eri and Chie.  This is KSU students Podcast.

 

Chie: Do you know Hello Kitty?

Eri: Of course!  She is very cute.

Chie: I think so too!  Do your know hello Kitty's profile?

Eri: I'm not well-acquainted with her.  Do you know it?

Chie: Yes.  Hello Kitty was born on November first, nineteen-seventy four.

Eri: Wow!  Is she forty one now?

Chie: Yes.  She is older than she looks.  And her height is five apples and her weight is three apples.

Eri: Really!?  She is too small.  I thought she was very big when I met her at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN.

Chie: Oh…I thought five apples was big!

Eri: …I see.  Do you know her favorite food?

Chie: Yes, I do.  She likes the apple pie which is cooked by her mother.

Eri: I like it too!  But I like cheese cake the best.

Chie: It's delicious!  I like cookies.  Her hobby is making cookies.

Eri: Oh!  I want to eat her cookies someday.

Chie: Me too.  Her other hobby is playing the piano and her dream is becoming a pianist.

Eri: Why?

Chie: Her parents presented grand piano to her in nineteen-eighty one.

Eri: Wow!  It's great!  I want to play the piano well.  Is her most favorite subject music?

Chie: Yes.  She likes music.  But she has another favorite subject.

Eri: What?

Chie: She likes English too.  She was born in England.

Eri: I am envious her.

Chie: Me too.  Do you understand her profile?

Eri: Yes!  Thank you.  Next I will introduce her family.  Her family has six members.  Kitty, father, mother, grandfather, grandmother and her twin sisters, Mimmy.

Chie: Wow!  It's big family!

Eri: Yes.  Her father is nice.  Her family trusts him.  And her mother likes cooking, cleaning and washing.  She is very kind.

Chie: My mother is the complete opposite.

2:  I’m so good! Well, we’re going to talk about a history of Gion festival. Kaori, did you know the Gion festival?

1:  Yes, of course. I heard that it has a long history.

2:  Right, but there is a big thing. Actually, Gion festival is one of the three Japanese top festival.

1:  Oh, really? That’s interesting. Have you ever been to there?

2:  Yes, I joined the volunteer of the Gion festival.

1:  What’s kind of job did you do?

2:  I took part in Kankoboko which is one of the ships.

1:  What is Kankoboko?

2:  You might see the thirty three big Hoko. Hoko means ship. Once upon a time, Kamoriver flooded. It lost life of a lot of people. People prayed for avoiding such a    terrible disaster, they started this festival by making many big ship. And Kankoboko is the one of the thirty there ships.

1:  I went to the Gion festival, but I don’t know such kind of ship and story. However, I know that Timaki and tapestry of Hoko is famous.

2:  Yes, that’s right. Firstly, Gion festival began in 869 years of the Heian era, and it keeps one month from July 1st to 31st every year.

1: Wow, that’s interesting. I heard that it is separated two parts, Sakimaturi and Atomaturi. .Therefore, in this year with the history of the 1147th year, does it mean?

2:  Yes, a Chinese is related to it, the name is Moushoukun.

1: Oh, I know him. It depends on the historical fact that he was escape by the voice of the Chikin at Kankozeki.

2; That’s interesting. Well, what do you think about the the tapestry?

1: I think that is beautiful. I know it came here a four hundred years ago.

Episode 046 - Kyudo: How to shoot a Japanese bow and arrow

K: Today we're going to talk about Kyudo.
  Kyudo is Japanese archery.
  Hey, Yuichiro, did you know that?
Y: No, I didn't. Have you done Kyudo before?
K: Yes. I belonged to the Kyudo club in high school for          
  three years.
  I'll tell you how to do Kyudo.
  Step1. Open your legs from the right.
  Step2. Keep your center of balance and stand up            
             straight.
Y: Oh, it seems to be difficult.
K: Step3. Fix an arrow to the bow
  Step4. Lift up bow and arrow
  Step5. Draw a bow
Y: The standing pose is so cool.
K: Step6. Keep the bow drawn and wait for your chance
              to shoot
  Step7. Then, release the arrow
  Step8. After you shoot, keep good posture
Y: That makes sense.
  Such manners are beautiful.
  We must remember the eight manners and do Kyudo.
K: Yes. Such manners are very important.
Y: I would like to try that once.

B: I watched “Casper".

B: Casper, who is a lonesome and cute ghost, is the main character. The story is about Halloween.

A: Oh!! Halloween is amazing!! By the way, what did you do on Halloween?

B:  No, I didn't. What did you do it?

A: I dressed up as a devil. I went to the Halloween party with my friends. I got a lot of candies. I had a nice day.

A: Let's go to the next Halloween party.

A: Well...the next event is Christmas. What do you know about Christmas?

B: Yes, I know about it. When l was 10 years old, l was interested and studied it.

B: I did a BBQ on the beach. Australians often eat sea food. So BBQ's ingredients were a lot of sea food. It was so delicious.

B:  Me too, I knew it, l was a surprise. This is south hemisphere Christmas. What do you know about Christmas?

A: I have heard that people relax at home on the day of Christmas in the USA

B: I see. In Japan, there are a lot of people who eat out, and go to see illuminations.

A: Yes.But all the shops are closed on a Christmas day, 25th in the USA, so people seem to enjoy conversation around a splendid meal with a family and relatives from the 24th through the 25th.

B: Wow! It looks just like New Year holidays in Japan.

A: Year. Furthermore, in the USA, people often eat a turkey, beef, or mutton in most family on Christmas, but there is not a decided food as for the meal of Christmas. They don't eat cake either.

B: It was surprising to me. In Japan, it is common to eat chicken and cake. Do they get the present?

A: Year. They can get several presents.

B: Wow. I'm very envious. How to spend Christmas varies by country.

A: Yes. Also, in Italy people eat eels on Christmas because eels are considered to be lucky food. In France, people put shoes in a house under a tree, and a present seems to be put on the shoes.

B:  That's interesting! I was excited for Christmas.

A: I'm looking forward to Christmas too! How do you spend Christmas?

B: I haven't decided yet.

A:  I will do a Christmas party with my friends. How about we do it together?

Episode 037 - Three Scenic Spots in Japan!


Hello my name is Kodai and this is Yuto.

This is KSU student podcast. We will talk about three most scenic spots in Japan.

Hi Yuto. How are you?
Hi Kodai. I'm fine. How about you?

I'm good. I wanna go to USJ with you.
What are you doing on weekend?

I'm busy because I have to work my part time job. I'm sorry.

Ok. Are you free next Sunday?

I'm ok but I don't wanna go to USJ.
Can we go to another spots?

Hmmm...Do you know the three most scenic spots in Japan?
I don't know.

Three most sports in Japan are Matsushima, Miyajima and Amanohashidate.
Matsushima has two hundred sixty islands.
Matsuo Basyo who wrote Okunohosomichi was very surprised because Matsushima was very beautiful.

Oh,sounds good. Where is Matsushima?
It's in Miyagi prefecture.

Miyagi!? It's very far. I can't go there.

How about Miyajima?
Miyajima was protected by Tairanokiyomori. Miyajima is famous for Torii gate.

It's very nice. I like Japanese culture. In particular I like Tairanokiyomori. Where is Miyajima?

It's in Hiroshima prefecture.

Hmmm... It isn't far but I wanna go to spots in Kansai.

Ok, how about Amanohashidate?
Amanohashidate looks like a bridge . It is  close to Amanohashidate station. We can go there easily.

Good! Where is Amanohashidate?

It's in Kyoto prefecture .

Let's go there. How will we go there?

First we have to take the train from Kyoto station to Sonobe station. Then transfer to the Saiin line and go to Ayabe station.

How long does it take?

It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Ok.
Second transfer to the Maizuru line and go to Nishimaizuru station. Then transfer to the Miyabu line and go to Amanohashidate station.

I feel like it's very hard but I'm look forward to going on a trip with you.

Y: This is KSU student podcast. Today we’re talk about “Schoolchildren’s Dream.”
K: Hi. How are you?
Y: I’m fine thank you, and you?
K: I’m fine to thank you. What part-time jobs do you have now?
Y: My part-time job is convenience store staff, and you?
K: My part-time job is an instructor in soccer. Did you do part-time job yesterday?
Y: yes. I was tired, because shop was very busy.
K: Oh. I appreciate your hard work. I was tired too. I studied very hard.
Y: What up?
K: Do you know that schoolchildren want to have a job now?
Y: Schoolchildren? Well…, a carpenter and… a game programmer and… a soccer player and…. I am thinking about them now. Actually, what about it?
K: According to one ranking, schoolboys want to be soccer players, scholars and baseball players.
Y: I see. I can understand dreams of those. But, what about schoolgirls?
K: According to same ranking, they want to be pastry chefs, teachers and doctors. And doctor is also in the schoolboy’s rankings.
Y: Oh. I cannot understand dreams of those. Doctor is popular dream for schoolchildren. For money?
K: I don’t think so. I think that they want to save people.
Y: I see. It sounds good. By the way, what do you want to be?
K: Me? I want to be a travel agent clerk.
Y: Travel agent clerk? Why?
K: Because when I was working at a SoftBank shop, It was very fun talking with customer. So I want to talk with customers and make them smile.
Y: That’s nice. I hope you can reach your dream.
K: Thank you. And next, you talk your dream.
Y: My dream is to be a software engineer, because I like thinking and making computer programs. And I enjoy them.

Episode 035 - The Charms of Tohoku


1: Hi, my name is Taka and his name is Mitsuo.

 

2: Hi, well… I went to on a Tohoku trip in the summer vacation.

 

1: Really? That’s good! How long did you go for?

 

2: 1 week.

 

1: 1 week? That’s nice.

 

2: Let’s talk about it.

 

1: OK! Please.

 

2: Well… First, I went to Miyagi. Miyagi’s biggest city is Sendai. Sendai is a very developed city, but Minamisanriku and Kesennuma were completely destroyed due to the tsunami in 2011.

 

1: Wow… the Great Ease Japan Earthquake was very shocking. Four years have passed since then.

 

2: Well… However, there are good places and delicious foods in Tohoku.

  For example, Tyusonji temple in Miyagi and Goshiki pond in Fukushima.

 

1: Oh, I went to Tyusonji temple too! It’s a good place.

It’s a registered World Heritage Site, isn’t it?

 

2: Yes, you know it will. It’s a very worthwhile temple.

 

1: I know Goshiki pond, but I’ve never been there. I want to go there.

  Well… what delicious foods are there in Tohoku?

 

2: There are many delicious foods in Tohoku. I ate Mabo-yakisoba.

 

1: Mabo-yakisoba!? I haven’t heard of it! Is it really delicious?

 

2: It was very delicious.

 

1: Wow! I want to eat it! What other things did you eat?

 

2: Well… I drank Zunda shake. It’s a confectionery made from green soybeans.

 

1: Zunda shake was introduced by a “Getuyokara yohukashi”

 

2: Really? I didn’t know that.

 

1: That reminds me. The Nikka Whisky factory is in Tohoku. I love whiskey.

 

2: Oh, we went to the Nikka Whisky factory in Sendai and we learned about the manufacturing process there.

  Finally, I sampled three kinds of whiskey.

 

1: Really? I think I want to go to Tohoku!

 

2: Oh, Shall we go Tohoku?

 

1: That’s a good!

 

2: Shall we talk about trip next time?

A: I`m fine and you?
B: I`m tired.
A: Oh, why?
B: I participated in a game of the Kendo yesterday. Do you know the Kendo?
A: Oh, it`s nice. Yes I do, I know that it is the martial arts of Japan!
B: Oh, yes! Have you played Kendo?
A: No I have not, but I have seen it. How long do you play Kendo?
B: I am having done the Kendo for 10yers.
A: Wow, it`s a long time! Are you a strong player?
B: No, no. I`m not strong. The Kendo is my hobby.
A: Kendo is the martial arts of Japan, right?
B: Yes!
A: When did the Kendo begin?
B: Kendo was made by Samurai in last part of Edo era. Do you know Samurai?
A: Of course I know! Samurai is Japanese soldier.
B: Yes.
A: But I can`t understand that Kendo was made by Samurai.
B: The war was over, but began Kendo to be able to do a war anytime.
A: Oh, I see! So the Kendo was made by Samurai! I hope that war has never started!
B: I think so too! But Japan become peaceful, too, and the Kendo becomes the culture.
A: Well. Peace is the vest.
B: The Kendo for fight disappeared, and Kendo as the culture was born.
A: Nice story. It is very good that such a custom becomes the culture.
B: I think so too.
A: How popular is the Kendo now?
B: The Kendo spreads out in the world as the Japanese culture now. But there are few people doing Kendo in my imminent human beings.
A: I don`t know the person who has done Kendo when I am said so very much.
B: I hope that Kendo comes to be more popular.
A: Well. Kendo is nice sports, because you are able to learn Japanese manners.
B: That`s right! Japan has unique manners, for example Wabisabi.
A: Wabisabi? I don`t know it. What is Wabisabi?
B: Wabisabi is Japanese senses of beauty, which mean "Beauty within simplicity."
A: Oh, by the way I have heard that thing through tea ceremony.
B: Yes! It is Wabisabi! The Kendo is culture of Japan same as tea ceremony and Judo, too.
A: The Judo is a competition of the Olympics, is the Kendo different?
B: No, Kendo isn`t a competition of the Olympics, but there is a world game of Kendo.
A: Oh, I see. I hope that Kendo will become a competition of the Olympics when Tokyo Olympics.

Episode 033 - Hanshin Tigers Talk


Hello, everyone.  My name is Takafumi, this is Masatoshi and Masaya. This is KSU Student Podcast.

1: Hi, How are you?

2: I'm fine, Thank you.

3: Me too. How about you?

1: I'm fine too.  Recently, I’ve been interested in baseball because "the premier 12" was very, very exciting.

2: Oh, it's good.

1: But, I don't know about baseball very much. It's a shame listening to basic knowledge on baseball...

3: We’ll teach you all about it.

1: Thank you. First, I want to know about "Hanshin Tigers".

2: I see. "Hanshin Tigers" is a professional baseball team in the central league. The Tigers’ home ground is in Hyogo. It is "Koshien.”

1: I thought that the Tigers was baseball team in Osaka.

3: Tigers were created in 1935. Then the name was "Osaka Tigers". In 1961, it was changed to "Hanshin Tigers"

1: .Oh, the Tigers have a long history.

3: .Yes. This year is the Tigers’ 80th anniversary.

1: But I don’t think that the Tigers are a strong team.

2: Umm, it's certain that Tigers hasn’t been a strong baseball team for a long time. But Hoshino Senichi became the director in 2002. And player's consciousness was reformed by substantial restructuring of the player and trade.

3: Then a league victory was achieved in 2003. Hanshin was reborn as a strong team which involves championship competition every year from here.

1: .Really, director Hoshino is wonderful. He made Rakuten win the victory, didn't he?

3: That’s right. There is also criticism, but I think it's apparent that he's one of the great baseball commanders

2: This year, we thought we would be 1st, but, finally we took 3rd place.

1: Yeah, I'm sad....

3: But "Fujinami Shintaro" was nice. He did pitch a perfect game on May 20th, they won 14 games, and got the title "Strike out leader ".

1: Fujinami is wonderful, too.

3: .Yes, Ohtani is very famous, but Fujinami is great too.

2: In next year, Kanemoto will become the Tigers' commander, and Fujikawa will return from Shikoku.

1: Oh, it's great. I'm excited.

3: Me too.

A: I will make curry and rice. Do you want to eat together?
B: That’s a good idea! May I go to your house?
A: Sure! Let’s go my house.
     ~Arrive at the house~
B: How do you make the curry and rice ?
A: The materials for curry and rice are rice, onions, beef, curry powder, potatoes, and carrots.
A: I use the curry powder called “Kokumaru” curry!
B: Wow! It’s nice, I like Kokumaru curry very much.
A: Let’s make curry and rice!
A: First I cut the materials to the size that is easy to eat.
B: Is the size like this all right?
A: Yes, that’s a nice size.
B: Thank you!
A: Second, fry the vegetables.
B: The vegetables looking good!
A: Next, fry beef.
B: I like beef!
B: Ok, beef is looking good!
A: Next. Pour water and boil vegetables and beef together.
B: Ok the water has boiled.
A: Next, I put the curry powder in the pan. It is complete after it boils for ten minutes.
B: It seems to be very delicious! I’m very hungry!
A: It was completed. Let's eat!

A: 3 feet 2 inches!

B: He is smaller than I thought!

A: what do you know Mickey favorite foods?

B: I don`t know. Please tell me.

A: Mickey favorite food is cheese.

B:  I like cheese too.

A: When Mickey was born very violent or smoking and drinking alcohol

B: Really? I can`t imagine from now Mickey.

A: Me too! Mickey has a lot of qualifications.

B: What kind of qualification?

A: For example Pilot, hunting, boat captain, passenger cars, work vehicles, large trucks.

B:It's a great mouse!

A: And Mickey is called by a different name in each country. 

Mickey is in the United States is called to be Mick.

In Italy called “Topolino”. In Spain called “Ratón Miguelito”.

B: Mickey is loved in the world!

A: Mickey has many friends.

B: Really?

A: Yes! For example, Donald Duck.

B: Donald Duck? He is duck?

A: Yes, he is. And he is best friends.

B: Has the other friends?

A: And Goofy. He is dog.

B: There are good friends?

A: Very good. Goofy is best friends.

B: Does he have any girlfriend?

A: Yes he does.  She is Minnie Mouse. She think cherish Mickey than anyone.

B: Is she cute?

A: Yes. Very cute. In addition, her cooking is very good

Episode 030 - Prefecture Battle: Wakayama food vs Osaka food


A: Hello everyone. My name is Mayu.
This is Izumi.

B: This is KSU podcast.

A: There are many students who came from all kinds of areas.

B: I think so, too! We can hear about the various region at this university.        

A: By the way, where are you from?

B: I'm from Wakayama prefecture.
  How about you?

A: I'm from Osaka. Oh, our home town are the Kinki district!

B:  That's right! What place is Osaka?

A: Every food is very delicious.

B: I see. There are many delicious foods in Wakayama, too.

A: What kind of food are in Wakayama?

B: OK! Wakayama have some local cuisine.
First, it is long tooth grouper hot pot.

A: Long tooth grouper?

B: Yes. Long tooth grouper is a scary face fish.
But, this fish's taste is delicate!
So, it is delicious!!
Because long tooth grouper is the high price fish, long tooth grouper hot pot is special food for Wakayama's people.
There are a lot of fish in Wakayama, because Wakayama is surrounded by the sea.
Second, it is Mehari sushi.

A: What's Mehari?

B: Mehari meaning is "opening eyes widely.
It's bigger than normal rice ball.
So, it is such named.
Because it is wrapped by leaves of pickles, it looks green mass.
It's a taste of the common people.

A: Oh, thank you for telling.
I didn’t know long tooth grouper and mehari, but now, I want to eat!
Ok, next, I will talk.
I tell you about kitsuneudon.
You have eaten, haven't you?

B: Yes, this is very delicious.

A: Many people don't know that kitsuneudon is Osaka's local cuisine.
Do you know why is called, “kitsune” udon?

B: now,I don't.

A: Ok, I tell you. Kitsuneudon has deep fried tofu and it is fox's favorite food, and color and it likes fox's image.
In Japan, it is said that for calls prosperity, Osaka is merchant's town.
So, kitsuneudon has been eaten with thanks and a wish.

B: There is such a history in Osaka's food. I'll eat them, when I visit there.

A: Please eat it. Today I became to want to eat and know about local cuisine in Japan.

B: I think so, too. Recently, it's getting cold. So, I want to eat hot pot.

A: But, be careful not to overeat.

B: That’s right!

Episode 029 - What's so good about Tokyo Disney Resort?

  That a good idea. I want to go Disneyland, too.

  Hey, Ayumi. Do you know a way of enjoying Disneyland?

  Well, I don't know. Let's check it together.

  Ok!

In Tokyo Disney Resort, you can play, stay, shop, eat, talk and smile. Everything is entertainment. There are two theme a parks, many shopping facilities full of variety, and accommodations around Disney Hotel.

There are lines for every attraction. In addition, there are various shops and restaurants connected together. Your happiness can be surely found once you set foot in the park. Let's make a wonderful memory in Tokyo Disneyland.

There are five ways of enjoying. The first, you should use the Fast Pass. Disneyland has many popular attractions. However spring vacation or summer vacation is crowded, and the waiting time is very long. So it is recommend that buy a Fast pass.

Second, you should confirm the popular attractions which have been renewed recently.

Third, you should a photograph with a character and enjoy the contact.

Fourth, you should watch a show. Various shoes are performed every day.

Fifth, you should decide the purpose. The park very big and you can't see eveything. So I can enjoy it if I decide a purpose for going to Disneyland.

  I understand that there were many ways of enjoying.

  I want to go to Disneyland more and more.

Episode 028 - It's time for winter sports!


Katsuya: Hello. My name is Katsuya. This is KSU podcast.

Ryosuke: My name is Ryosuke. I feel it’s colder and colder recently.

K: So do I. It will be fall snow. Have you ever played winter sports?

R: Yes. I’ve played snowboarding once and skiing sometimes.

K: I see. I’ve been skiing since I’m an elementary school student and I’m belonging to ski club now.

R: That’s great! But on the other hand, I’m not good at snowboarding.

K: Don’t worry! Let’s talk about skiing and snowboarding!

R: yeah! It will be interesting!

K: Where did you go to the ski resort?

R: I went to Togari ski resort and some places. I forget where I went because I didn’t go for a while.

K: I’ve never been to there. But I’ve went to almost ski resort in Shiga and many ski resort in Hukui, Gifu, and Nagano. Where do you want to go?

R: I want to go Nagano. There are a lot of big ski resort, aren’t there?

K: Yes! I’ve been to Shiga-Kogen ski resort which has very big ski slope so I was lost.

R: That’s interesting! If you have been to many places, does it mean that you are good at skiing?

K: Well…maybe…How about you?

R: I can glide snowboarding like others.

K: It’s good. There is no problem if you can do as much as else.

R: Thank you. I’ll do with confidence after.

K: How did you feel when you do snowboarding for the first time?

R: I felt it’s difficult and scary because both feet attach on the board.

K: Both feet split on the ski. But I felt fear for the first time.

R: but it’s also one of the fun things. I enjoy feeling wind, comfortably, thrill and pain which occurs the next day.

K: I totally agree with your feeling.

R: Do you have your ski, ski boots and snow wear? I don’t have all goods.

K: Oh, You must be better to buy your tools. I almost use “salomon”. This maker is the best for me to fit. But it doesn’t sell snowboard products.

R: I don’t know at all about makers.

K: Oh, Sorry. In addition, those things cost a lot of money.

R: I know that. I only have some money so I can’t buy them. I need to work hard a part-time job.

K: That’s right. I also work hard to go to winter camp of the club in Hokkaido.

R: Let’s work hard together and won’t you go to play skiing and snowboarding?

K: That’s a good idea! I want to go with you!
